DFS, the sofa manufacturer, has now raised £13 million for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) through the sale of customers’ old sofas in BHF Furniture & Electrical stores across the UK

DFS marked the milestone in the partnership today, enlisting the help of Olympic gold medal winning gymnast Max Whitlock in the celebrations. Max, a DFS Team GB ambassador during Rio 2016 has created a 13-minute at home workout video, showing how people can get fit in the comfort of their own home.

DFS’ partnership with the BHF launched in 2012 to help the charity with its fight against coronary heart disease – still the UK’s biggest killer. The partnership sees the BHF offer a free removal service to any customer who chooses to buy their new sofa from DFS.

The scheme allows DFS customers to have their unwanted sofa collected for free by the BHF when their new DFS one is delivered.

Their old sofa is then sold by the charity in one of its charity shops to fund research into some of the UK’s biggest killers, including heart disease, stroke and vascular dementia.

Mike Taylor, commercial director at the BHF said; “We’re so grateful to DFS and their customers for raising millions since the partnership was formed in 2012.

“Thanks to the generosity of DFS customers, over 147,000 items of furniture that could have gone to waste, possibly even to landfill, have been given a new lease of life and have raised funds that help to power lifesaving heart research across the UK.”
